Indexing process

An overview of the indexing process
When the indexing process is started, approximately 60 words are indexed a second, 3600 per minute and 216 000 per hour. The time taken to create the central index can be awhile. It depends on the number of records and the number of words in the various various databases.

Hence, advise you use a pc that you can leave to run for a period of time when indexing is required. Once you have run the indexing process a couple of times you will have an idea how long it will take.

Note: the indexing process only needs to run when updated data is received. There are also techniques to index select data files instead of all the files each time.

While the index is running it shows what is being indexed; how many words have been processed; and, the word being processed. See the screenshot as an example.
